- In a large bowl warm your water. Stir in the honey and sprinkle in the yeast on top. Give it a stir and then cover with a towel and place in a warm spot for 15 minutes until foamy.
- Remove the towel and then add in the salt, oil and flour. Begin stirring it up and then this is when I separate it for each kids. I just split the dough up into halves or thirds and then each kid kneads their own dough. Once the dough comes together, each ball of dough goes into a small glass bowl. We cover it with thin towels and then let it rise for 1 hour.
- For the following instructions, you’ll do the same to each dough ball.
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
- Punch the center of the dough and then remove it from the bowl.
- On a clean surface, divide each dough ball into 6-9 pieces. Shape the dough into mini bagels and then set on a cooking sheet. You’ll let them rest for 10 minutes.
- While the dough is resting, bring a large pot of water to boil. Add in the baking soda.
- Place each mini bagel into the boiling water for 1 minute. Remove it from the water and place on the cooking sheet. Do this with each mini bagel.
- Brush the tops of the bagels with egg wash and sprinkle with seasonings (optional). We use Italian seasonings if we’re making pizza bagel bites.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a little bit.
- Using a bread knife, slice the bagels in half and now you can begin making your pizzas!
- We add pizza sauce, freshly grated mozzarella cheese and then some get pepperoni. You can use any toppings you’d like.
- Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or so until the cheese is melted.
- Remove from the oven and enjoy!

If your kids are anything like mine, they love frozen bagel bites, but I don’t like all of the unnecessary ingredients in them so we make them homemade, all the way down to the bagels. It’s really easy to do and my kids all help in the kitchen. At the end, they’re so proud of themselves and it teaches them a good lesson with patience when making bread from scratch.
Tip: The batch that I’m making I split into halves or thirds so each kid can form their own bagels. The base mixture I put together in one big bowl and then we split it when it’s time to knead. You can make normal size bagels, or mini bagels. We make mini bagels for the bagel bites.
