Ingredients
1 16-oz brie wheel
1/4 cup red jam (strawberry, cherry or raspberry)
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
1 egg
1 tsp water
large edible eyes
serve with: grapes, wheat thins, apples, etc
Recipe
- Place brie in the freezer for 10 minutes so it helps keep the shape as you assemble prior to baking.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Slice off the top 1/2 inch of the brie and set aside. Spread the jam on the bottom of piece of brie. Add the top back on, covering the jam.
- Roll your puff pastry out on the parchment paper. Place the brie in the center of the puff pastry. Make two cuts on both long sides of the dough from the brie to the edges. It’ll create even thirds. Fold the middle pieces over the top of the brie. Cut strips on the short sides of the dough, this will be used as the mummy wrappings. Stretch the strips over top of the brie to create the mummy wrap.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg and water. Brush the egg wash all over the pastry, sides and tops. This will get it crispy and the perfect flaky pie crust.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes (until the crust is crispy and golden brown, but not burnt)
- Add large edible eyes and serve warm with apples, grapes, wheat thins, baguette.
